About Us
Welcome to The Shaw Centre
A Registered Charity and Activity Centre for Adults with Learning Disabilities
The Shaw Centre was founded in 1983 and was originally known as Landridge House. Today, we provide a friendly, supportive environment offering day care and activities for up to 24 adults with learning disabilities (aged 18 and over) each day.
The centre was originally set up by a group of parents who were unhappy with the limited services available at the time. From its beginnings as a volunteer-run project supported by donations, The Shaw Centre has grown into a well-established service, funded through a contract with Manchester City Council. Our dedicated team of eight staff members provide personalised support, helping each individual to enjoy meaningful activities and build confidence.
If you are interested in a place at The Shaw Centre, please speak to your social worker. We are a recognised provider with Manchester City Council, and any new referrals are assessed by a social worker who will determine the appropriate level of support: low, medium, or complex needs. This assessment helps to decide the funding level required.
If you manage your own personal budget, you can also choose to self-fund your place by contacting us directly.
We are open Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and are based at Redbank House, Cheetham Hill.
For more information or to arrange a visit, please contact us — we’re happy to help.
